Music Video: Annie Jacobs-Perkins - Sabina by Andrew Norman

Andrew Norman wrote Sabina after witnessing the sun come through windows made of selenite stone during an early morning mass in Rome's Santa Sabina. All of the music from my debut album, "Innisfree" for Champs Hill Records, is in some way inspired by the practice of plainchant and spans a timeframe from 1666-2008.

The name for this album comes from a personal rather than a researched connection. If each of these pieces holds a relationship to western sacred music, then I have named the album after my sacred place: in the 1980s my grandparents built a house in Henderson, New York, a small town on Lake Ontario close to the Canadian border. They named their home after Yeats’s poem “The Lake Isle of Innisfree.” This poem and this place are my orientation to home. Part of the reason I love Sabina so much is that the music has always reminded me of Innisfree, of “lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore.”
